Ideas on how to manage wedding costs

Weddings are magical. They are a celebration of two people in love making a commitment to one another. However sometimes it can be hard making decisions about what is important to you both. Sometimes there are other influencing factors such as family members and trying to keep others happy, but finances can also play a part in the decision making process. I have put together a few things that you could consider if you are looking at keeping costs down:

  • Make a wedding budget

  • Consider getting married out of season. The cheaper times to get married are January-March and November-December.

  • Consider marrying Monday - Thursday.

  • Get married later on in the day.

  • Trim down the guest list.

  • Have a smaller bridal party.

  • Swap the Champagne for a cheaper alternative.

  • Consider DIY weddings - however be careful as sometimes this can be more expensive than a hotel wedding.

  • Find suppliers you like and speak to them about how you can manage costs. They are the experts in their field and they should be able to help give you ideas.

  • Choose your priorities - If you are both more passionate about a particular item at your wedding consider prioritising the cost of this over other things. Consider writing a list of your priorities as this will help you identify what are the most important things.

Whatever you decide to do make sure it's right for the both of you. It can be hard when you have so many ideas thrown at you from family, friends, social media etc and it's easy to get overwhelmed by everything. Remember to breathe and enjoy the process, and ultimately concentrate on what you both want.

Happy Planning!
